DONE + DONE all started March 29th, 2021. I was in the studio just playing around when I asked instagram what emotions needed to be shredded. To my surprise and in the weight of the pandemic we all had a lot to shred. People direct messaged me and commented and we shredded things like imposter syndrome, fear, doubt, hopelessness, anxiety and so much more.

Since March 29th, 2021 every so often when I was in the studio I would shred others emotions

On March 27th, 2022, I brought the shredder out to the gallery space. I performed DONE + DONE at the Martin makers marketplace where handfuls of people flooded in to buy soaps, art, focaccia and other goodies.

Edra Soto invited me to activate her bus depot at Expo. Whitney LaMora performed all in blue DONE + DONE. It was a very fun experience to see the piece on the Edra’s grand installation. An analogue hand crank shredder was used for this version of the piece.

Performed at Navy Pier on April 9th, 2022

I was invited to do DONE + DONE at Chicago Plants for a backyard popup. I sat in the back garden area of the shop and shredded emotions for Saturday plant buyers and window shoppers. I love doing performances in non gallery spaces, because it gives people an authentic way to encounter something new and artistic in their day. I met some amazing people who were vulnerable to the point of asking their partners to step away to be uninterrupted in their letting go.

The sweet Edra Soto invited me again to activate The Franklin’s booth at Nubes Art Fair. I had the honor of sitting in the middle of the gallery on a replica of The Franklin made into table form. A beautiful print from Alberto Aguilar lay under the table as well as a community of ant sculptures by Remi Bordas and Olivia Juarez. During the opening for the Fair, over the DJ, whispers of emotions were spoken and shredded by hand with the analogue shredder. When the night was over, I left a pile of the shreds in the gallery.

DONE + DONE took to another city, Milwaukee. I had the chance to perform in the Wisconsin Center as part of a show called Splendor. I curated the show and had over 30 pieces. The opening was really special. A lot of people openly shared and the most popular emotion that was shredded was anger and imposter syndrome. It was a really powerful time.

DONE + DONE was invited to Austin, TX to perform in the house of producer Mary Beth Minnis. Mary Beth created a whole night around the performance - there was lovely appetizers, conversation and the sharing of art. People sang, shared poetry and vogued. We laughed, we cried, we gathered, it was amazing.

Dan Sullivan and Edra Soto invited me to perform at Dock 6’s Design and Art 14. The event was an amazing display of art, design, food, DJ’s and community. Edra and Dan are champions of the local arts community and have been huge supporters of me since we met in 2021. I am so grateful for their mentorship, friendship and love.

I performed on a handmade desk by designer Zak Rose. It was a beautiful addition to the performance.

As I sit at Zak Rose’s desk, a familiar face walks up. I am not sure if they will remember me but I remember them. Acting casual, I ask them the normal question: “What emotions do you want to shred?” They think and proceed shredding. I ask them if they remember me and they do! They quickly say they want this piece at their gallery and that’s how I got the gig to perform at A Very Serious Gallery.

To end 2022, I took DONE + DONE to Friday Art Project’s Art Party, in Rock Hill, SC. This was particularly special for me, as I used to live in Rock Hill and have a lot of friends in the area. We shredded old names, past selves, insecurities, fear, anxiety, the list was profound.
